Covid 19

What Is COVID-19?

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness caused by a new virus. The virus can spread from person to person. Symptoms may include fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, or loss or taste or smell.

People who are older have a higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19, and the risk increases with age. People who have existing medical conditions also may have a higher risk of serious illness.

Prevention

COVID-19 is most likely to spread from person to person through:

  1. Direct close contact with a person while they are infectious or in the 24 hours before their symptoms appear,
  2. Close contact with a person with a confirmed infection who coughs or sneezes, and/or;
  3. Touching objects or surfaces (such as door handles or tables) contaminated from a cough or sneeze from a person with confirmed infection, and then touching your mouth or face.

To curb the spread of COVID-19, ensure to take the following measures:

SOCIAL DISTANCING

To practice social or physical distancing, stay at least 1.5 metres (about 2 arm lengths) from other people who are not from your household in both indoor and outdoor spaces.

GET A VACCINE

Everyone in Australia will be offered a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine. National Cabinet has agreed that, in line with the advice of TGA the Pfizer vaccine will be prioritised for people under 60 years of age across all phases. SAFE HYGIENE HABITS
  1. Clean your hands often. Use soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand rub.
  2. Don’t touch your eyes, nose, or mouth.
